如是我聞:一時佛在迦毘羅衛國 * 俱陀園林中。


麁手釋往詣摩訶男所,語摩訶男言:

「如來說須陀洹,有幾不壞信?」

摩訶男釋答言:

「如來所說須陀洹人,有四支不壞信。所謂於佛不壞信,於法不壞信,於僧不壞信,聖所 * 授戒得不壞信。」

麁手釋言:

「汝今不應說言如來說四不壞信。所以者何?如來唯說三不壞信。所謂於三寶所得不壞信。」

第二、第三亦作是說,摩訶男亦作是答:

「汝莫說言三不壞信,如是 * 如來實說四不壞信。」

二人紛紜,各競所見,不能得定,往詣佛所,頂禮佛足,在一面坐,請決所疑。時摩訶男白 * 佛言:

「世尊!彼麁手釋來至我所,作是言: 『如來為說幾不壞信?』 我即答言: 『如來說於四不壞信。所謂三寶、聖所 * 授戒。』 麁手釋言: 『如來唯說三不壞信。云何言四?所謂三寶。』 第二、第三亦作是說。第二、第三我亦答言: 『如來說四,實不說三。』 彼之所說,我不能解;我之所說,彼亦不解。」

時麁手釋即從坐起,白佛言:

「世尊!假設佛不教我,僧不教我,比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷、若天、若魔、若梵,此諸人等都不教我向於佛者,我亦一心迴向於佛,法、僧亦然。」

佛告摩訶男言:

「麁手釋作如是語,汝云何答?」

摩訶男白佛言:

「世尊!若如是者,我更無答。異於佛法,更無善處。離於佛法,更無真處。無異處善,無異處真。」

佛復告摩訶男:

「汝從今日應如是解,具足四事,名不壞信。所謂於佛、法、僧、聖所 * 念戒。」

麁手釋以不解故,作如是語,即聞佛說,即得解了。


時摩訶男及麁手釋聞佛所說,歡喜頂禮而去。

如是我聞:一時佛住迦毘羅衛國尼拘律園中。


爾時釋氏名曰沙陀,語釋氏摩訶男:

「世尊說須陀洹成就幾種法?」

摩訶男答言:

「世尊說須陀洹成就四法。何等為四?謂於佛不壞淨,法、僧不壞淨,聖戒成就,是名四法成就須陀洹。」

釋氏沙陀語釋氏摩訶男:

「莫作是說!莫作是言世尊說四法成就須陀洹。然彼三法三法成就須陀洹。何等為三?謂於佛不壞淨、於法不壞淨、於僧不壞淨,如是三法成就須陀洹。」

如是第三說。釋氏摩訶男不能令沙陀受四法,釋氏沙陀不能令摩訶男受三法,共詣佛所,稽首佛足,退坐一面。 釋氏摩訶男白佛言:

「世尊!釋氏沙陀來詣我所,問我言: 『世尊說幾法成就須陀洹?』 我即答言: 『世尊說四法成就須陀洹。何等為四?謂於佛不壞淨,於法、僧不壞淨,聖戒成就,如是四法成就須陀洹。』 釋氏沙陀作是言: 『釋氏摩訶男!莫作是語!世尊說四法成就須陀洹,但三法成就須陀洹。何等為三?謂於佛不壞淨、於法不壞淨、於僧不壞淨,世尊說如是三法成就須陀洹。』 如是再三說,我亦不能令彼釋氏沙陀受四法,釋氏沙陀亦不能令我受三法,是故俱來詣世尊所。今問世尊,須陀洹成就幾法?」

時沙陀釋氏從坐起,為佛作禮,合掌白佛:

「世尊!若有如是像類法起,一者世尊,一者比丘僧,我寧隨世尊,不隨比丘僧。或有如是像類法起,一者世尊,一者比丘尼僧、優婆塞、優婆夷、若天、若魔、若梵、若沙門、婆羅門、諸天、世人,我寧隨世尊,不隨餘眾。」

爾時世尊告釋氏摩訶男:

「如摩訶男!釋氏沙陀作如是論,汝云何?」

摩訶男白佛:

「世尊!彼沙陀釋氏作如是論,我知復可說,我唯言善,唯言真實。」

佛告摩訶男:

「是故當知四法成就須陀洹,於佛不壞淨,於法、僧不壞淨,聖戒成就,如是受持。」


時釋氏摩訶男聞佛所說,歡喜隨喜,從坐起,作禮而去。

Mahānāmasakkasuttaṃ

Kapilavatthunidānaṃ Atha kho mahānāmo sakko yena godhā sakko tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā godhaṃ sakkaṃ etadavoca– “katihi [var] tvaṃ, godhe, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāsi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇan”ti?

“Tīhi khvāhaṃ, mahānāma, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ. Katamehi tīhi? Idha, mahānāma, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– itipi so bhagavā…pe… satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavāti. Dhamme…pe… saṅghe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– suppaṭipanno bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho…pe… anuttaraṃ puññakkhettaṃ lokassāti. Imehi khvāhaṃ, mahānāma, tīhi dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ.

“Tvaṃ pana, mahānāma, katihi dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāsi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇan”ti? “Catūhi khvāhaṃ, godhe, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ. Katamehi catūhi? Idha, godhe, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– itipi so bhagavā…pe… satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavāti. Dhamme…pe… saṅghe…pe… ariyakantehi sīlehi samannāgato hoti akhaṇḍehi…pe… samādhisaṃvattanikehi. Imehi khvāhaṃ, godhe, catūhi dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇan”ti.

“Āgamehi tvaṃ, mahānāma, āgamehi tvaṃ, mahānāma! Bhagavāva etaṃ jāneyya etehi dhammehi samannāgataṃ vā asamannāgataṃ vā”ti. “Āyāma, godhe, yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkameyyāma; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocessāmā”ti. Atha kho mahānāmo sakko godhā ca sakko yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho mahānāmo sakko bhagavantaṃ etadavoca–

“Idhāhaṃ bhante, yena godhā sakko tenupasaṅkamiṃ; upasaṅkamitvā godhaṃ sakkaṃ etadavocaṃ– ‘katihi tvaṃ, godhe, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāsi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ’? Evaṃ vutte, bhante, godhā sakko maṃ etadavoca–

“Tīhi khvāhaṃ, mahānāma, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ. Katamehi tīhi? Idha, mahānāma, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– itipi so bhagavā…pe… satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavāti. Dhamme…pe… saṅghe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– suppaṭipanno bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho…pe… anuttaraṃ puññakkhettaṃ lokassāti. “Evaṃ vuttāhaṃ, bhante, godhaṃ sakkaṃ etadavocaṃ– ‘catūhi khvāhaṃ, godhe, dhammehi samannāgataṃ sotāpannapuggalaṃ ājānāmi avinipātadhammaṃ niyataṃ sambodhiparāyaṇaṃ. Katamehi catūhi? Idha, godhe, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti– itipi so bhagavā…pe… satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavāti. “Evaṃ vutte, bhante, godhā sakko maṃ etadavoca– ‘āgamehi tvaṃ, mahānāma, āgamehi tvaṃ, mahānāma! Bhagavāva etaṃ jāneyya etehi dhammehi samannāgataṃ vā asamannāgataṃ vā”’ti.

“Idha bhante, kocideva dhammo samuppādo uppajjeyya, ekato assa bhagavā ekato bhikkhusaṅgho ca. Yeneva bhagavā tenevāhaṃ assaṃ. Evaṃ pasannaṃ maṃ, bhante, bhagavā dhāretu. Idha, bhante, kocideva dhammo samuppādo uppajjeyya, ekato assa bhagavā ekato bhikkhusaṅgho bhikkhunisaṅgho ca. Yeneva bhagavā tenevāhaṃ assaṃ. Evaṃ pasannaṃ maṃ, bhante, bhagavā dhāretu. Idha, bhante, kocideva dhammo samuppādo uppajjeyya, ekato assa bhagavā ekato bhikkhusaṅgho bhikkhunisaṅgho ca upāsakā ca. Yeneva bhagavā tenevāhaṃ assaṃ. Evaṃ pasannaṃ maṃ, bhante, bhagavā dhāretu. Idha, bhante, kocideva dhammo samuppādo uppajjeyya, ekato assa bhagavā ekato bhikkhusaṅgho bhikkhunisaṅgho upāsakā upāsikāyo ca. Yeneva bhagavā tenevāhaṃ assaṃ. Evaṃ pasannaṃ maṃ, bhante, bhagavā dhāretu. Idha, bhante, kocideva dhammo samuppādo uppajjeyya, ekato assa bhagavā ekato bhikkhusaṅgho bhikkhunisaṅgho upāsakā upāsikāyo sadevako ca loko samārako sabrahmako sassamaṇabrāhmaṇī pajā sadevamanussā. Yeneva bhagavā tenevāhaṃ assaṃ. Evaṃ pasannaṃ maṃ, bhante, bhagavā dhāretū”ti.

“Evaṃvādī tvaṃ, godhe, mahānāmaṃ sakkaṃ kiṃ vadesī”ti? “Evaṃvādāhaṃ, bhante, mahānāmaṃ sakkaṃ na kiñci vadāmi, aññatra kalyāṇā aññatra kusalā”ti.
